Inequity in education is one of humanity's greatest problems because it perpetuates a cycle of poverty, inequality, and lack of opportunity. Education is a fundamental human right and an essential tool for individuals to improve their lives and contribute to society. However, when access to education is limited by factors such as race, gender, socio-economic status, or geographic location, individuals are denied equal opportunities to reach their full potential. Inequity in education also exacerbates existing social and economic disparities, widening the gap between the haves and the have-nots. This perpetuates systemic injustices and undermines social cohesion, hindering progress toward a more just and equal society. The state of school education in Sri Lanka reveals a notable disparity in access to basic supplies, particularly in rural schools. While strides have been made in achieving near-universal primary education and improving literacy rates, a pressing concern remains the unequal distribution of essential resources between urban and rural educational institutions. Many rural schools still grapple with inadequate access to basic supplies such as textbooks, teaching materials, and even proper school infrastructure. These shortcomings hinder the quality of education in these areas, making it imperative to channel assistance towards addressing these resource deficits, ensuring that every student, regardless of their location, has the necessary tools for a quality education.
